Can someone please tell me:

  • Why the Catholic Church, under the guise of the (CCHD) Catholic Campaign for Human Development, is funneling money to socialist organizations?

The Catholic Church is listed on the web site of the Congressional Progressive Caucus — under Catholic Charities. These are the Congressmen in Washington who are not shy about proclaiming that they are [socialists/communists].

I am a cradle Catholic, happily married to another cradle Catholic for the past 35 years. We live in the Catholic diocese of Dallas, Texas where we have a very liberal bishop. We moved to Texas last year from Tulsa, Oklahoma and we are having problems getting accustomed to the fact that this diocese is way too progressive for us. We miss the reverence and the solemnity of the Mass that we enjoyed in Tulsa.

Now we found out that the CCHD is taking our donations and giving them to organizations with [socialist/communist] ties.

Mary Ann replied:

Dear Sue.

You are right about the CCHD and Catholic Charities.  Many Catholics have complained.

Nevertheless, what you see in the CCHD now is a great improvement over years past, thanks to great investigative and reporting efforts by good Catholic journalists and, yes, many Catholic churchmen and organizations cooperate with and support organizations that promote ideas and actions contrary to Catholicism.

  • But you know what?

God knows all about it, and He will take care of things. We should contribute our money to places that promote authentic Catholicism, and there is no obligation to give to any particular charity.

As for the Liturgy, give thanks that you had an experience that tells you what good Liturgy is, and pray for the places you must frequent.  Consider that the Church is suffering a stripping of the garments like Christ did, and that we suffer with Him.

Welcome to the desert!

Mary Ann
